New Højtoft

A unique residence for people with autism is now realized in Hvalsø

New Højtoft

For a person with autism, a well-balanced physical environment is crucial to whether a house also becomes a home

Under the name “Ny Højtoft”, a new residence for adults and seniors with autism will be inaugurated in summer 2024. The project will set new standards for how architecture and design are used actively and supportively for the benefit of residents, relatives, employees — for the community and for the surrounding community. From the beginning, the collaboration between the National Association of Autism and Njordrum Care has been with the common ambition to create world-class housing for people with autism.

Homes where the citizen gets a personal home and where self-determination and the possibility of influence on the community are a matter of course. Ny Højtoft consists of Housing Offerings, Senior Houses and detached dwellings. Central to the facility is a communal building with facilities that can be used by all residents of Ny Højtoft. Here are hall, activity room, cafe area, gym, sensory room, small niches and courtyards. The many different possibilities open up the fact that you can always find a place in the common building where you can find your way. Where you think -- it's nice to be here. In addition to offices, meeting rooms and other facilities for the employees at Ny Højtoft, the common building also contains.

Landsforeningen Autism has established a new foundation whose sole purpose is to develop housing services for adults with autism, where the architecture is based on autism-specific knowledge both from residents, relatives and professionals. The housing offers will be listed geographically throughout the country. The first project will be in Hvalsø in Lejre Municipality and will be completed in early 2024. The project was designed by Njordrum Care.
